Location
Sudbury, Ontario

The premise for this project is lifelong community wellness.

The Centre itself brings together eleven partners including the YMCA, Older Adult Centre, Health Sciences North (Cardiac Rehab), Day Care and other community based organizations all under one roof.

As a result the Centre demanded unique programmatic, functional and conceptual solutions at all phases of the projects’ development in order to address philosophical ideas, partners requirements and project budget.

The facility includes a full complement of gymnasium and related support spaces including change rooms, fitness rooms, indoor track, squash courts and shared common spaces to support programs for all ages.

Key Features

Public Space
An internal street connects Durham Street to Memorial Park and the building steps back from the other buildings on the street in order to create an outdoor public space. Public space is further developed by creating transparency between the building and the space of the street and between internal program areas of the building.
Shared Space
With eleven partners, it was necessary to develop shared spaces in order to avoid a duplication of spaces and to ensure budget compliance.
Regeneration
This project was instrumental in regenerating the downtown.
