Tim has practiced architecture with 3rdLine.Studio in Northern Ontario for over 30 years. His work includes highly sustainable environments; commercial developments, offices, schools, laboratories, industrial and residential work. His focus is ensuring design solutions create long life projects. Tim’s work with Canada Revenue Agency and with Rainbow District School Board have assisted these organizations to manage significant change with respect to their physical infrastructure. Tim has contributed design leadership to community projects including Rotary Park, Laurentian University School of Architecture and Health Sciences North.

Mike Ladyk
Michael Ladyk joined the Firm in 1995 as an intern architect and has been a Partner since 2005. With 30 years of experience in the practice of architecture and construction, Mike has liaised with a diverse group of clients, consultants and trades to complete projects across commercial, industrial, institutional, First Nations and residential sectors.
Mike is a skilled technical designer with a clear understanding of function, form and material issues. He is well known for listening and responding to client issues and excels in team environments, managing multiple tasks in a professional and practical manner. He takes pride in assuring that the needs of clients are met by acting as prime contact through all phases of the project.
Currently a member of the Greater Sudbury Development Corporation (GSDC), Board Member of the United Way Capital Campaign (2017-2019), President of the Wavy Lake Campers Association, President of Corsi Hill Playgrounds and past Chair for the Sudbury Action Center for Youth (SACY) and former coach for the Sudbury Minor Hockey Association , Mike is notable for his contribution to his community. Grounded by his roots, he understands the importance of integrity and building a strong community.
Angèle Dmytruk
Angèle first joined 3rdLine.Studio in 2010, as an intern architect and 2018 as a Partner in the firm.
Angèle’s wide range of experiences both culturally and professionally play a significant role in her approach to design at 3rdline Studio. Angèle received her undergraduate degree at Ryerson University. In the following years Angèle lived and worked in Southern Ontario specializing in the high – end residential sector later moving abroad to immerse herself in European culture and design. She later completed a Master’s of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan.
With 15 years of experience Angèle is well versed in design development, construction documentation, interior design, budgets, contract administration and project management across the institutional, commercial, residential and industrial sectors. Now an architect and partner at 3rdLine.Studio, Angèle is seeking to build long term client relationships.
She is currently a member with the Business and Professional Women’s Club of Greater Sudbury (BPW) and is a part time professor at Collège Boréal.
Vanessa Vachon
Vanessa is a partner of the firm and is a Professional Quantity Surveyor with 15 years of experience providing construction management and architectural services at 3RDLINE STUDIO and POLESTAR CM. Vanessa excels at putting buildings together and managing the contract documents and the trade contractors that construct the work. She leads the development of costing analysis and value engineering throughout project development. Her strong leadership and project management skills are supported by a firm foundation of technical building knowledge. She has led the development of contract documents for buildings valued up to $30M. She is a member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS), of the Association of Architectural Technologist of Ontario (AATO) and has Gold Seal Certification (GSC) from the Canadian Construction Association (CCA).
Vanessa was born and raised in Sudbury and has been exposed to the construction industry since her childhood. She is a proud French Canadian with aspirations of contributing to French communities in the North.
Vanessa’s focus has been on providing project management leadership. She is working with institutional and private sector corporate clients on a wide variety of project types and scales. She enjoys making meaningful spaces happen for her clients on budget and on time.
Andrea Vettoretti
Andrea is a licenced architect and has been with the firm full time since 2015.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario, Andrea’s research investigated architectural opportunities for repurposing post extraction landscapes; it is this desire to contribute to the architectural landscape of the North that brought her back to the region.
During her time with 3rdLine.Studio, Andrea has had the opportunity to design, lead, manage and coordinate a variety of projects across Northern Ontario.
Andrea completed her studies at Ryerson University and is a licensed architect with the OAA.
Ian Boyne
Ian Boyne was born in Coatbridge, Scotland and immigrated to Canada in 1964 where he grew up in the small northern Ontario town of Espanola. Ian has worked as a Project Manager for over 30 years on a wide variety of projects ranging from $50,000 to a $200+ million hospital expansion. His job included working with clients, collaborating and listening to their requirements, designing and implementing a plan in order to create the final project. Ian also worked for the provincial government for five years, working with different ministries to implement their needs for various projects.
April Machum
April is an architect at 3rdLine.Studio where she has been a part of the team since 2018. During her time at the studio, she has worked on a wide range of projects, including residential homes, commercial buildings, industrial spaces, health care facilities, and Long-Term Care facilities. Her expertise extends across all project phases including schematic design, design development, construction documentation, coordination, and project management.
Born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario and with a strong connection to Manitoulin Island, April has always been passionate about working in the north. She completed her Bachelor of Architecture in 2018 and her Master of Architecture in 2020 at the McEwen School of Architecture in Sudbury, where she was immersed in a tricultural environment specialized in designing for the north. April’s diverse background, education, creative and critical thinking are an asset, informing the execution of creative ideas with practical construction techniques and methods.
Kristina Hakala
Kristina joined 3rdLine.Studio back in 2015, continuing to work on and off with our team throughout her academic studies. She completed her studies at the McEwen School of Architecture, graduating with her Master of Architecture in 2021, and has recently received her license as an Architect!
Kristina was born and raised in Sudbury, and always knew she wanted to stay in Northern Ontario. She aspires to showcase the beauty of the northern landscape and culture through her career.
Her work includes everything from working with clients in the design phase through to contract administration work during the construction of the project.
Ilenia Avola
Ilenia is an Italian national that joined the 3rdLine team in 2021. She holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Politecnico di Milano. During her university career, Ilenia participated in a one-year exchange program with the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. Her thesis research focused on retrofitting an existing building to achieve a lower energy consumption.
After graduating, she moved to Canada and found home in Sudbury, Ontario. Ilenia is currently accredited by the Canadian Architectural Certification Board (CACB) and registered as an Intern Architect with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA). At 3rdLine.Studio Ilenia has had the opportunity to work on a variety of project types and sizes, from initial design through to construction she enjoys working through each step of the process.
Maria Zakharova
Maria graduated from the Master’s Program at the McEwen School of Architecture in April 2022, where she successfully defended her thesis on gender, poverty, and trauma-informed design solutions in Northern Ontario. Her academic focus on designing for Northern Ontario provided her with valuable experience in addressing real community issues and hands-on building experience. Born and raised in Eastern Europe, Maria’s multicultural background allows her to have a unique understanding and open-minded approach to diversity and socially sustainable architecture.
Following her graduation, Maria joined the 3rdline.Studio team and is now a registered intern architect with OAA, working towards her license. Her studies, research, and experience have given her a unique perspective on design, which she applies to all her projects. She is passionate about working in the north and looks forward to contributing to new, innovative projects in the community.
